New Ford Safety Technologies Unveiled to Keep Everyone Safer While Driving

In the automotive industry, advanced safety technologies are becoming more and more important. Because of this, it is no surprise that Ford has decided to expand its already long list of available driver-assist tech. The American carmaker has introduced a number of new Ford safety technologies, including next-generation features designed to make parking easier, help avoid collisions, avoid wrong-way driving, and detect obstacles in the road.

Cross-traffic alert with braking technology is the first new feature in development at Ford. This will make parking easier by detecting people and objects passing behind the vehicle, warning the driver of these obstacles, and automatically braking. Evasive steering assist is also a new technology that helps avoid collisions by steering drivers around stopped or slower vehicles. The hope is that this technology will reduce the amount of collisions that occur.

One of the most innovative technologies is wrong-way alert. This uses a windshield-mounted camera and information from the vehicle’s navigation system to alert drivers when they are driving the wrong way against traffic. The new Ford safety technologies even includes Traffic Jam Assist, which keeps the vehicle centered in a lane during traffic.

Ford currently offers the most models in the US with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and more safety technologies. Stop by Shults Ford of Wexford to see what else these safety-savvy vehicles have to offer.

Winter Driving Tips

Winter is right around the corner which means it’s time to freshen up on driving on slick roadways! Winter roadways are a different beast to tackle for most drivers but there are ways to improve your safety on the go. Here are some winter driving tips from us here at Shults Ford of Wexford so you can stay on the road this season!

  • Slow Down – It takes longer to stop on slick roadways which makes slowing down and taking your time even more of a necessity in winter. Try to keep a distance of eight to ten second or car lengths in order to give yourself plenty of time to stop. Keep in mind that pulling off a fast turn on snow-covered roads could easily leave you in a ditch or snowbank.
  • Avoid Distractions – Distracted driving is a serious problem on the modern roads and it becomes even more dangerous during winter. The roads can be unpredictable which makes putting the smartphone away even more crucial. Avoid becoming a statistic by making use of steering-wheel controls and voice-recognition software this winter.
  • Don’t Drive – If you aren’t confident in your ability to reach your destination during harsh weather, avoid driving altogether. If you don’t have to go out on the road, don’t. Make sure to watch the local weather report every day as well!

Vehicle Body Styles Explained: SUV, Crossover, Sedan, and Coupe

If you are new to the car-shopping process, you’ve probably noticed a range of unfamiliar terms. These include words like “SUV,” “Crossover,” “Coupe,” and “Sedan”—words which seem like they mean the same thing. However, there are some important distinctions to make between these various body styles. Here is a list of some of the basic vehicle body styles explained.

According to AutoTrader, many people use the terms “SUV” and “Crossover” interchangeably despite the fact that there are some important differences. To begin with, SUVs are built on the same platform, or chassis, as a truck. This leads to a rigid, durable ride. Crossovers are built on a unibody platform, which means that the body and frame are built together. This leads to a smoother ride.

What about “Coupe” and “Sedan”? A coupe is usually a two-door model that has less than 33 cu ft of rear interior volume. Think of these models as sleek, sporty cars. A sedan is normally a four-door model (though not necessarily) which has more than 33 cu ft of rear interior volume. These cars are more practical and roomy than a coupe.

It’s important to understand terms like these in order to describe what you would like to drive. Now that you know the difference between these body styles, it’ll be easier to find your dream car.

The Best Fall Maintenance for Your Ford

Fall seems like the milder season nestled in between the two extremes of summer and winter. However, just because there are no immediate threats of dramatic weather, Ford owners should still tend to their vehicle. But fall maintenance for your Ford doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are some quick steps that will make a big difference.

Check Your Tire Pressure

It’s a good idea to keep an eye on your tires at all times. But when the colder weather hits, you should especially make a point of checking them regularly. Cooler temperatures decrease the air pressure in your tires. Plus, you’ll want to ensure that your tires are in tip-top shape going into the winter road conditions.

Check Your Heater

Speaking of that cold winter weather, fall is the perfect time to make sure that your heater and defrosters are working properly. Give them a test run and if anything goes less than expected, you’ll have plenty of time to get it looked at by a professional.

Check Your Battery

Like your tires, your vehicle’s battery is sensitive to the cold. Get your battery tested now and replace it if it looks like it’s on its last leg. It’s best to have a good battery going into winter, as the cold weather often keeps older batteries from starting.
