Ford Creates the First Mobile Wind Tunnel Used for Automotive Testing

When it comes to testing vehicles, Ford puts their lineup up against some of the most hazardous conditions that drivers can face on the road. One such condition is high winds. Recently, Ford found a more efficient way to test their vehicles for resistance against those violent gusts and gales.

According to a Ford press release, Ford has created the first mobile wind tunnel used for automotive testing. Traditional vehicle tests use a stationary wind tunnel. Ford has one such device at their testing location in Allen Park. However, Ford has developed a way to create the same wind effect using more mobile design methods. In fact, the mobile win tunnel can be prepared for transport to another separate location in the span of a single day!

“This project was born from a desire to be the best when it comes to controlling and limiting the cabin noise customers are so sensitive to,” said Bill Gulker, Ford wind noise core supervisor. “And our new mobile wind tunnel saves our engineers time and increases productivity. It’s a fine example of the innovation mindset we’re trying to incorporate into everything we do.”

Using technology like this wind tunnelMobile Wind Tunnel, Ford guarantees that your vehicle will be ready to face whatever nature throws its way.

Ford Releases Video of New F-150 Raptor

Truck brands can brag about their lineup all day, with everyone claiming that their trucks are the most powerful, the strongest, the most capable, and more. However, Ford apparently believes in showing, not telling, because the brand just dropped a preview video showcasing the skills of the new F-150 Raptor. Shot in the Mojave Desert, the video, which is reportedly the first in a series, gives the F-150 Raptor a chance to show off its off-roading prowess to viewers.

As of right now, Ford hasn’t released many details about the new F-150 Raptor, outside of the fact that it carries a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that is said to be far more powerful in terms of horsepower and torque than the previous model; however, the brand neglected to reveal the exact numbers. Regardless, with a more powerful engine under the hood and a 500-pound weight loss from the previous Raptor, the new F-150 Raptor was primed for success before it even set food into the rolling dunes and flat sands of the desert.

The video clip itself shows the F-150 Raptor effortlessly climbing rocky hills, crashing through dunes, kicking up clouds of sand, and easily maneuvering bumps and turns with a flexible and adaptive suspension. Ford intends on making more videos to showcase the capabilities of the new Raptor model, so the brand may have even more impressive tricks up their sleeve.

In addition to the new engine, the new F-150 Raptor will also feature a manual 10-speed transmission, as well as 3.0 FOX Racing Shox to optimize off-road performance. The truck is expected to go on sale in the US this upcoming fall.

Premier of the Lincoln Concept Navigator

We at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford know how amazing Lincoln vehicles are, but many people have been waiting for a comeback from the luxury automaker. The wait is over, as Lincoln pulled out all the stops for its next concept vehicle.

The concept for the next Lincoln Navigator premiered at the New York International Auto Show. The debut was just as spectacular as the vehicle, as a band played a jazz version of “All of Me” and Matthew McConaughey came onto the stage.

An overhaul to the Navigator hasn’t happened in a decade, so fans were thrilled to see the new concept. The concept SUV had gullwing doors, three steps that automatically unfold on each side of the vehicle, and even a custom interior storage area that resembles a closet!  The interior is spacious with large seats and intricately designed features such as the shifter being designed to look like piano keys.

Lincoln is calling the Navigator a prime example of “quiet luxury,” perfect for people wanting to buy drivable comfort and luxury.

More than just a pretty vehicle, the concept Navigator boasts a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which puts out more than 400 horsepower. Lincoln also has stated that there are new technologies to help the Navigator handle and perform in all weather conditions.

Not all the spectacular features will make it into the penciled in 2017 production, but we at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford will be waiting to see how this concept Navigator finalizes in production.

Ford Honors Arcelormittal as a Top Steel Supplier

We at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford are proud that Ford uses quality material for all their vehicles. This is shown in every final product. Of course, the final quality is highly dependent upon the suppliers’ products used to create the vehicles. That is why Ford works hard to choose a supplier of trust and quality.

This year, Ford honors Arcelormittal as a top steel supplier. This Luxembourg-based steelmaker has received Ford’s highest rating in its annual Business Unit Review for five straight years.

These awards clearly demonstrate ArcelorMittal’s solid contribution and commitment to providing the best vehicle material and services in the industry.

The steelmaker employs many people in several US locations and areas around the world. “Maintaining the highest level of products, solutions and service for GM, and for all of our automotive customers, is what drives us every day,” said Greg Wells, director of automotive sales for ArcelorMittal North America.

ArcelorMittal plants include mills in Burns Harbor, Indiana Harbor, the New Carlisle I/N Tek and I/N Kote, as well as mills in Alabama and Ontario. These locations make steel for all aspects of every Ford vehicle, especially the Edge, Transit, and Fusion.

ArcelorMittal states that they appreciate Ford’s business and could not accomplish their solid production without all of the team members who work for ArcelorMittal throughout the variety of plants that manufacture, sell, service, or deliver steel to Ford.

We at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford love to see the positive business relationships producing quality products for Ford consumers.

How to Clean Your Car Interior

Winter is the worst season for making a mess of our cars. Besides all the mud and slush we track into them, we’re probably leaving more trash in them as well—because who wants to go out in the freezing cold and clean out their car? But it’s March now, the weather’s looking up, and it’s time to do some spring cleaning. Follow these tips on how to clean your car interior, and it’ll be spotless in no time!

First, of course, clean out any trash, and then start the real cleaning. Hopefully most of the muck is on your floor mats—take them out and vacuum them or, if they’re really bad, spray them with a hose and set them aside to dry.

Get your vacuum ready—find a long extension cord if you don’t have a plug outside—and suck up all the dried dirt and grime you’ve accumulated in the last few months. Get in between the cracks; leave no stone unturned.

Most importantly after a long winter, clean your windows, and wipe down your dashboard while you’re at it. And don’t use window cleaner on cloth seats!

Examining Lincoln’s Success in China

Lincoln has always been considered one of the classiest and most stylish luxury automobiles out there, and now the brand’s good-taste and sophistication has spread its influence all the way to China – and boy do they love Lincoln over there!

2015 marked the first full year of sales in China and, by the end of December, Lincoln had sold 11,630 models across the country. Lincoln’s success in China is likely due to both the 33 new Lincoln dealerships opened in the country (eight more than was originally planned) and Lincoln’s solid legacy of ultimate luxury and style. The reliability and personal experience of “The Lincoln Way,” a full-service, full-immersion lifestyle enhanced by the Lincoln brand surely didn’t hurt their sales, either.

Lincoln’s huge success in China will continue to grow as the brand plans to reach 60 dealerships in 50 cities by the end of 2016, plus the reintroduction of the classic full-size luxury sedan, the Lincoln Continental.

Ford Pulls Off the Biggest Super Duty Stunt Ever

The Ford Super Duty badge has always assured folks that what they’re driving is stronger, tougher, and more reliable than any other truck out there. Ford proved this all over again with its biggest Super Duty stunt ever: eight F-150s plus an F-750 Tonka dump trunk hanging from one 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty frame.

Dangling from one enormous crane, the Super-Duty frame took on a collective 60,000 lbs. from the nine massive trucks hanging below it. Brackets were introduced to the frame in order to represent the axles that would be present on the actual truck. When the pressure was on (let us repeat: we’re talking 60,000 lbs. of pressure), the Super Duty frame held true, demonstrating no bends or cracks throughout the course of the biggest Super Duty stunt to ever grace us with mind-blowing capability.

The all-new frame of the 2017 Super Duty features a wash of new technologies and engineering to improve rigidity and overall strength. We can’t wait to start selling these beasts at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford!

Ford SmartDeviceLink Software Sets New Industry Standard

Various automakers are adopting Ford technologies in order to set a new industry standard. In fact, Toyota recently adopted the SmartDeviceLink, Ford’s open-source smartphone app interface software. Illustrating just how impressive Ford’s technology is, other automakers can’t seem to replicate what Ford has.

According to Ford, the SmartDeviceLink software allows Spotify, Glympse, iHeartRadio, and other smartphone apps to be easily accessed by drivers using voice recognition and dashboard controls. Other automakers that are looking into the software include Peugeot Citroen, Honda, Subaru, and Mazda.

“The true benefit of a common smartphone app communications interface is that it creates an industry standard – enabling great experiences for customers while allowing different companies the freedom to differentiate their individual brands,” said Don Butler, Ford executive director, Connected Vehicle and Services. “Ford is making the software available as open-source, because customers throughout the industry benefit if everybody speaks one language.”

The Ford technology is expected to reach an additional 28 million vehicles by 2020, making it one of the most important industry standards. This will not only benefit automakers like Ford, but it will enable consumers to have the latest technologies without spending extra.
