Ford is going green. Recently announcing the Drive Sustainability effort, Ford teamed up to with nine other major automotive companies to make the auto-manufacturing process eco-friendly. The other automotive companies include BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, Scania CV AB, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo. This is just one of many steps Ford is taking to become more environmentally friendly.
According to Ford, the Drive Sustainability effort will establish a Raw Materials Observatory to address environmental concerns and ethical issues that occur when finding raw materials for the auto industry. Ford itself has suppliers in more than 60 countries, which means it sources materials from all over the world.
“This is a perfect opportunity for an integrated approach amongst auto companies to come together and share a common platform for how we look at some of the very important aspects of sustainability, like working conditions and our collective environmental footprint,” said Bob Holycross, VP of Sustainability at Ford Europe.
In particular, this Drive Sustainability effort will help when sourcing materials like mica, cobalt, rubber and leather. Plus, Ford is holding the World Excellence Awards for those companies that excel in eco-friendly applications.
