Today, St. Patrick’s Day is a day we celebrate all things Irish. But do you know where this day comes from? We are going to share the history of St. Patrick’s Day with you.
In Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day has been celebrated for over 1,000 years. It celebrates St. Patrick, who worked as a missionary. He incorporated a number of traditional Irish symbols into his teachings. It is believed that St. Patrick died on March 17th, which is why that day is St. Patrick’s Day.
The tradition made its way into the United States, and the very first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held on March 17, 1762 in New York City.
Over the years, the popularity of St. Patrick’s Day continued to grow with more parades being held across the country, including here in Pittsburgh. If you are going to the Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade this year, be sure to drive your Ford.
