Many pizza companies say they’ll deliver in 30 minutes or less, but can any of them say your pizza will be delivered in a self-driving car? Partnering with Domino’s Pizza, Ford recently began consumer research on autonomous vehicle technologies in the food industry. Though it might sound a bit strange, this is the one of many steps the Ford brand is making toward revolutionizing the car industry.
Ford autonomous vehicle technology is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Currently, the brand is considering how we can better integrate self-driving cars into everyday circumstances—like delivering pizzas. According to Ford, the partnership with Domino’s is part of a larger move to increase its understanding of how self-driving cars can support the movement of people and goods in the US.
“As delivery experts, we’ve been watching the development of self-driving vehicles with great interest as we believe transportation is undergoing fundamental, dramatic change,” said Patrick Doyle, Domino’s president and CEO. “We pride ourselves on being technology leaders and are excited to help lead research into how self-driving vehicles may play a role in the future of pizza delivery. This is the first step in an ongoing process of testing that we plan to undertake with Ford.”
Here’s how it works. A customer orders a pizza and receives a distinct code. They can then track the self-driving car as it moves from their local store to their home. Then, the customer can punch the code into the side of the car and retrieve their pizza from the Domino’s Heatwave Compartment™–a specially designed space in the side of the car.
Although there’s no word yet about whether this technology will be implemented at a Domino’s near our location, it is evidence of Ford’s innovative thinking. At Shults Ford Lincoln Wexford, we can’t wait to see this self-driving technology in action in the near future.
Not long ago, Ford made a big change to America’s favorite pickup by giving the F-150 a heavy-duty aluminum body. This innovative strategy allowed the Ford F-150 to shed serious pounds, leading toward higher fuel efficiency and a more powerful performance.
Knowing the success of the aluminum-body Ford F-150 makes it extra exciting to announce that the new 2018 Ford Expedition will be receiving the same treatment. This full-size SUV has been a staple in the Ford lineup since 1997, but the 2018 model year will be a pivotal moment in its timeline. The aluminum body actually gains three inches in its wheelbase plus one inch more in both length and width, all while still dropping roughly 300 pounds. That means that this eight-passenger SUV will be offering a better performance than ever before.
Performance will also be enhanced by Ford’s new 10-speed automatic transmission, which will work with the 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 EcoBoost® engine. The 2018 Ford Expedition will also offer the Terrain Management System which can be paired with the available four-wheel drive, making almost any weather or terrain an easy feat to conquer.
The 2018 Ford Expedition will also feature nearly 40 new safety and technology features, including SYNC® 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2018 Ford Expedition may still be a standard favorite, but the new version is anything but standard. Stop in at Shults Ford Wexford this fall to check out the new Ford Expedition.
Stop in at Shults Ford Wexford any time of day, and we’ll probably be discussing two things: Fords and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Our Black and Gold team’s 2017-2018 season is right around the corner. The end of July marked the start of the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, a time when players get back into the swing of things. But more importantly, training camps are a time for the 53-man roster to be decided upon for the season.
Of course, the Steelers’ coaches are thinking ahead as much as possible, so many of the roster’s positions are already filled. But there are some Steelers players who coaches might be on the fence about. One such player is wide receiver Cobi Hamilton. Hamilton stepped in at the end of the 2016 season just when the Steelers needed him the most, and performed well catching 17 passes on 28 targets. However, the Steelers already have four wide receivers ready to go, so whether or not Hamilton makes it will depend on how irresistible his performance is at training camp. The same sort of question is up in the air for running back Fitzgerald Toussaint and wide receiver Demarcus Ayers. These are just three of huge pool of talented players that the Steelers have to choose from. Only time and training camp will tell who will make the final cut for the 2017-2018 season.
Venturing off-road seems to be something Ford drivers tend to love, even if the vehicle isn’t specially designed for rough terrain. As it turns out, the return of the Ford F-150 Raptor was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to more off-road-oriented vehicles. The Ford Expedition FX4 has also returned in style, with more capability than the standard model.
The Ford Expedition FX4 returns for the first time since 2003 and brings a vast array of updated equipment. Under the hood lies a twin-turbocharged V6 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission that produces 375 hp. Four-wheel drive comes standard as well.
The upcoming off-road SUV boasts a retuned suspension and standard limited-slip rear differential for optimized traction and comfort. Seven protective plates cover vital components as well. The whole SUV rolls out on standard 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.
More than 20 percent of Ford Expedition owners travel off-road in their SUV. As a result, the automaker expects the upcoming Expedition FX4 to appeal to the enthusiast in us all and make up 10 percent of Expedition sales. Pricing has yet to be announced, but stay tuned for more information.
We here at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford are ready to hit the trails behind the wheel of the new Ford Expedition FX4!

The average driver tends to believe that well-paid celebrities drive expensive cars, often ranging in the supercar segment, like Ferrari and Lamborghini. As it turns out, that isn’t entirely true. While many celebrities do indeed drive cars with six-figure price tags, others are driving the same cars that many consumers drive. We here at Shults Ford Lincoln Wexford know of a few celebrities who drive a Ford.
Known for his role in Big Lebowski, John Goodman is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner with quite the reputation behind him. One might think that such a well-know, well-off actor would be sitting behind the wheel of a fancy sports car, but that couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, Goodman rolls off in a 1997 Ford F-150. A fitting ride, especially since the F-150 is the bestselling pickup in the United States.
Known for his role in the 2003 movie Hulk, Eric Bana is an Australian actor with a need for speed on the road. Why else would he have converted his first car, a Ford XV Falcon, into a racer? Bana has owned the Falcon since he was 16, a car that fits Marvel’s big green monster’s role perfectly.
The last thing one might expect a late-night show host to ride around in is a 1992 Ford Taurus SHO, but that’s exactly what Conan O’Brien drives. Powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 220 hp, the Taurus SHO is almost as interesting as O’Brien himself.
Accessing your vehicle’s trunk shouldn’t be a hassle, and with Ford’s liftgate technology it doesn’t have to be. Full hands and heavy items are no longer an obstacle when you own a Ford vehicle equipped with a liftgate. Here’s a little more information about Ford’s liftgate technology from us here at Shults Ford Lincoln Wexford.
Ford’s hands-free liftgate allows drivers to access the cargo area without setting down items. Ford’s electrical systems engineers say that the technology is similar to that found in motion-control video games.
The technology was extensively tested to ensure that the liftgate wouldn’t open unintentionally. The system uses two sensors to detect when a shin and foot enter and leave the electronic field. It then tries to detect the key fob and opens the liftgate is successful.
The system is perfectly calibrated to detect a kicking motion alone. The liftgate won’t open during other encounters, such as encountering a rolling ball, dogs, and rain. Since everyone’s knee bends at a different point depending on height, the technology had to be tested and calibrated accordingly.
A sample of shorter women and taller men with different knee heights, some up to two feet of difference, were used to show how the system detects the kicking motion. The advanced liftgate system has since been perfected and has been available in Ford vehicles since 2013.
You may have heard of Ford’s proudest accomplishment—the F-150 has been America’s best selling truck for 40 years. That accolade is thanks to a standard for continuous improvement and development that isn’t matched in other brand. Ford vehicles beat out competitors like Nissan, Hyundai, and General Motors in more ways than one. The entire Ford lineup is home to some of the best technology and performance on the market.
Some of the best Ford technology is centered around Ford’s SYNC® 3 infotainment system. Available in most of the Ford lineup, the SYNC® 3 system offers hands-free access to tons of important tools and entertainment features using natural voice command control. Access navigation, traffic information, and your favorite smartphone apps using an intuitive interface.
Compared to systems like NissanConnect or Hyundai Blue Link, SYNC® 3 is an effortless and versatile system. Let’s not forget to acknowledge the generous and intelligent safety features offered in each of the Ford vehicles. You won’t find active and passive securities as plentiful or as thoughtful in other vehicles.
Ford also tends to beat out competitors with its performance. Even just the mid-size SUV, the Ford Explorer, can tow up to 5,000 pounds, doing so safely thanks to features like Hill Descent Control™ and Adaptive Cruise Control. Take a closer look at the details of each Ford vehicle and its competitors, and you’ll see that the Ford brand wins nearly every time. You can find the Ford for you here at Shults Ford Lincoln Wexford.
What makes for a great auto brand? Is it maximum power? The latest technology? The fastest sports car?
At Shults Ford Lincoln Wexford, we think that versatility is the key ingredient to being an outstanding brand. The Ford lineup certainly has what it takes to cater to all sorts of needs. Ford may be applauded often for its best-selling pickup trucks, but there’s so much more in the Ford lineup than simply strength. One look at the lineup and you’ll see that Ford fits every lifestyle.
For instance, check out the Ford Fiesta. As Ford’s smallest car, the Fiesta also wears the smallest price tag, so it’s the perfect choice for young drivers or college graduates with student loans to pay off. It’s just as impressively efficient as it is affordable, so drivers will save on gas, too.
Still, the 2017 Ford Fiesta, as well as its larger siblings like the Focus and the Fusion, is packed full of features, like available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, that give young drivers access to the smartphone interface with which they’re familiar.
These larger sedans make excellent family cars. But the Ford lineup is also full of crossover and SUV options that are equally appealing for those that want extra space or capability. There are even options like the 2017 Expedition, which can tow up to 9,200 pounds, providing families with both the strength of a truck and the comfort of a car.
No matter what your lifestyle is like, it’s hard not to find a Ford that fits it. To learn more about our favorite features in the Ford lineup, call us at Shults Ford Lincoln Wexford. We’ll be happy to help you explore Fords that are perfect for you.
