With the kids out of school and summer officially here, it’s time to celebrate National Zoo and Aquarium Month with a trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. With the zoo located less than half an hour away, it’s an easy trip to make.
Here are some great experiences you can have at the zoo.
- One new addition to the zoo’s animal family is the Visayan Warty Pig. Three female pigs will now call the Pittsburgh Zoo home. They hail from the Vasayan Islands in the Philippines and are a critically endangered species. They will be part of a new exhibit area called “The Islands.”
- Every Wednesday now through August 5 from noon until 2 PM, you can take part in Wild Wednesdays. This family-friendly activity will feature a new theme each week and highlight different animal throughout the zoo.
- Bring two celebrations together by celebrating Father’s Day at the zoo on June 21. All dads receive free admission when accompanied by a child.
The zoo is open daily with summer hours from 9:30 AM through 6 PM (gates close at 4:30 PM). Adult tickets cost $15, children ages 2-13 are $13, and anyone under 24 months old is free. Parking is free as well. And what will you drive to the zoo? If you need a new vehicle to get you and your family to the zoo safely and efficiently, then come check out our expansive inventory at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford!
Ever wondered what a V8 Ford F-150 that runs on propane would be like?
This year Ford plans to answer that question by offering a conversion package that would allow the full-size 2016 Ford F-150 alternative gas options. A mere $315 factory-installed package would allow the 5-liter V8 engine to burn compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane, making the F-150 the only half-ton pickup with that ability.
“We expect the gaseous-fuel prep package will be even more popular than it was on the 2014 F-150 with the 3.7-liter V-6 engine,” said Jon Coleman, Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager.
That’s because Ford surveyed likely propane users and overwhelmingly said they’d employ the cheap, clean gas system in fleet-truck applications. Ford said the towing capacity will remain the same as its regular gas counterpart and hauling would only be affected by the weight of the aftermarket tanks and fuel lines that can be installed at a cost of $7,000 to $9,500.
It’s an exciting time at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford with all the new options Ford has to offer. Make the trip in to see our selection of cutting-edge new Ford cars and trucks.
Becoming the most popular model for police in the US in 2014, the Ford Police Interceptor model recently reached a production milestone. In fact, more than 100,000 of the Interceptors have been made by the Troy Design and Manufacturing Company in Michigan since the vehicle’s inception in 2012.
According to Ford, the TDM Company makes about 600 to 1200 of the vehicles per week, with more than 125 packages for police departments to choose from. As of 2014, the Interceptor took over the market with more than 50% of police vehicle purchases being the Ford model. The model is incredibly popular for its rigid durability and high-performance capabilities.
“This is a big accomplishment not just for TDM but for everybody,” said Marcelo Esperza a worker at TDM. “We’ve been working so hard trying to get all these units complete. To get to 100,000, we’re very proud. It helps a lot to have the top-selling police vehicle. I’m just glad I’m part of it.”
The Ford Police Interceptor model is easily customizable and incredibly reliable, making it the ideal car for our men and women in blue. Whether they’re chasing down criminals or responding to an emergency, they can count on the Interceptor.
The Lincoln Motor Company is expanding its Driven to Give program to include The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) and Matthew McConaughey’s just keep living Foundation.
The automaker will donate $25 for each test drive conducted at two of AJLI’s conferences this year, split between the association itself and the local Junior League. The first conference has already occurred at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in LA during April 16-18. The second will take place Sept. 17-19 in New Orleans during a fall leadership conference.
In addition, Lincoln will donate $20 to Matthew McConaughey’s just keep living Foundation for every test drive taken in the new 2016 MKX crossover at dealerships nationwide, including Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford. If the test-driver so chooses, of course.
Since 2011, Lincoln has donated more than $4 million to schools and charities through its Driven to Give program. We’re proud to be a part of it!
As we head into summer and begin preparing for those family road trips, it’s important to check a number of your car’s functions, not the least of which are the belts and hoses. The belts and hoses are central to your car’s ability to run, and to do so efficiently.
“You don’t want to be stranded because of a bad belt that could have been diagnosed with simple preventative maintenance,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council. “If the serpentine belt fails or breaks, the engine will fail to run and you may be stuck. The Car Care Council recommends replacing belts at specified intervals to save you from the hassle of a breakdown.”
Here’s how to check car belts and hoses:
Check the manual. Your manual will tell you how often belts and hoses need to be replaced (if at all). This will give you a good idea what to expect when you look under the hood. It will also provide insight into where specific belts and hoses are located for your vehicle.
Look for obvious damage. Make sure your engine is cool before getting started, then look for frays, tears, wear, cracks, nicks, or bulges. Anything abnormal should be looked at by a skilled technician.
Check connection points. Make sure that the connections look clean and show no signs of fraying.
Check for signs of glazing on belts. Belts can begin to glaze on the sides, which can lead to the belt slipping.
If you find that you have hoses or belts that need to be replaced, we recommend stopping by Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford to schedule a service appointment as soon as possible!
The 2015 KBB Brand Image Awards are in, and Ford has been recognized with the title of Best Overall Truck Brand! This isn’t the first time, either. It used to serve presidents, until the name fell out of favor as European luxury cars pushed their way into the American market. Now, it’s back. Lincoln is resurrecting the former presidential vehicle. The Lincoln Continental will go on sale in 2016.
Since it last rolled off the lines in 2002, the Continental has been storied. While Lincoln tried to compete with foreign automakers, the American aspect vanished from the car. Now, CEO Mark Fields is leading the revival.
“When we get a chance to work on an iconic nameplate like that, it’s a mixture of pride and a mixture of fear, because when you put that name out there, it’s got to deliver,” Fields told The Associated Press.
Henry Ford’s son, Edsel, who added it to the lineup in 1938, first inspired the Lincoln Continental. Sales gradually rose until 1990, where they peaked at 62,732 units. After that, sales slipped and Lincoln fell out of the luxury market. Now, with Fields behind the wheel, Lincoln is pushing its way back up from premium to luxury. Hopes are set high in China, where full-size sedans are growing in popularity.
It’s easy for a lot of crossovers and SUVs out there to stick a few shiny surfaces and finishes on their exterior and interiors and claim to be “luxury” vehicles. Not all that glitters is gold, though, as we know. Here at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford, though, we’ve got the real deal. The new Lincoln MKX might be built on the same platform as the Ford Edge, but it takes everything to a whole new level.
The Lincoln MKX is a beautiful crossover, with a uniquely Lincoln design look. Fortunately, the package is as excellent and luxurious as the wrapping indicates. It features perks like a Revel audio unit with 13 speakers in Select and Reserve trim levels—that number shoots up to 19 in the Black Label trim—the MyLincoln Mobile app, leather upholstery with 22-way power-adjustable front seats, and much more.
It’s not just a mobile hotel room, though—it’s got quite a powertrain under the hood as well. You can get a V6 engine with over 300 horsepower or even a new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine option with up to 330 horsepower. The new version of the MKX will hit dealerships this fall, but come in and see us here at Shults to learn more about the MKX and the rest of the upgraded, truly luxurious Lincoln lineup today.
Together, The Center for Auto Safety and The Car Book have said that the Lincoln Navigator is a Best Bet. The award is only given to vehicles with superior crash test ratings, and the Navigator is the only large premium utility vehicle to earn this recognition.
The award is based on nine vehicle categories, including, crash tests, safety features, rollover, preventative maintenance, repair costs, warranty, fuel economy, complaints, and insurance.
The 2015 Lincoln Navigator earned a five-star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration earlier this year.
In addition to its excellent safety standards, the Navigator offers an interior with premium features including better second-row head room and leg room than the Cadillac Escalade. Also, when properly equipped, it has a best-in-class towing capability of 9,000 pounds.
The 2015 Navigator is also the most powerful and most efficient Navigator ever. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine delivers 380 horsepower along with best-in-class fuel economy of 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.
If you’re looking for a luxurious large SUV that will give you the best in safety and features, come check out the 2015 Lincoln Navigator available now at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford.
Ford has never been an auto company to shy away from lofty goals. Their latest ambition? To sell 700,000 Ford F-150 models—a goal that they’re already well on their way to achieving, thanks to the enormous popularity of the model.
There are two different assembly plants working on F-150’s, one in Dearborn, Michigan, and another in Kansas City, Missouri. Between the two, Ford will likely be able to build the 700,000 units in just a single year.
New technology in the Dearborn and Kansas City plans should make the Ford F-150 production smoother, faster, and generally more efficient than ever, including a new paint shop that detects dirt and a fleet of 500 robots to join panels and handle other small tasks.
The automaker reportedly sold 470,000 F-150’s in 2014, without even counting the other members of the F-Series (like the F-250 and F-350), which bring their 2014 F-Series sales easily over one million. It’s no wonder they’re trying to speed up production to meet this incredible demand.
