Lincoln Eliminates its New Car Smell from China-bound Cars

Is there anything better than that new car smell? Well, according to Chinese consumers, there is – no smell at all. In an effort to appease its Chinese car customers, Lincoln eliminates its new car smell from vehicles bound for China.

According to representatives from Lincoln Motor Company, research indicates Chinese patrons are less than enthusiastic about the scent caused by new plastics, glue, and leather that most Americans find so appealing in new cars. “They don’t like it,” says Kumar Galhotra, Lincoln’s president. “We’ve gone through a very thorough process of understanding the materials that contribute to that smell.”

In an effective effort to remove the new car smell, some automakers are employing nose teams to inspect cars for odor and develop methods for its removal. Fortunately for the Chinese market, Lincoln workers simply put a container of carbon absorbent sheets into the Lincoln cabins before the vehicle is shipped to China – much like eliminating bad odors from the fridge with baking soda – and upon arrival, the smell has dissipated.

Introducing the MyLincoln Mobile App: the Latest Luxury in Connectivity

By recently partnering with Google, Lincoln was able to develop a one-of-a-kind seamless app experience to add to the luxury experience of owning a Lincoln. The new MyLincoln Mobile app was developed to increase connectivity between drivers and their cars.

“Delivering unique experiences for the luxury client throughout ownership is fundamental to Lincoln,” said Matt VanDyke, Director at Global Lincoln. “By innovating with leading tech companies, we have an opportunity to personalize the ongoing interaction between the customer and the vehicle.”

The new MyLincoln Mobile app will also allow users to access Google, providing them with information on traffic, weather, and even things like sports scores. No more fumbling around with your phone; this new system lets users have hands-free information anytime they want. 2015 Lincoln Navigator Receives 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for Safety

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has awarded the 2015 Lincoln Navigator with its maximum 5-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety in the New Car Assessment Program.

The score highlights the SUV’s ability to keep passengers safe in the event of a frontal or side-impact crash, as well as its resistance to rollover. It uses a nifty system called AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control to provide stability and minimize skidding/fishtailing in sharp turns.

However, what impresses us the most about the 2015 Navigator here at Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford is the vehicle’s ability to avoid crashes altogether, thanks to its comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assist technologies.

Features like Blind Spot Information System, Cross-traffic alert, and forward and reverse sensing systems ensure that the driver is as aware of his or her surroundings as possible, making them less likely to get into a situation that would lead to an inevitable crash. And that, we think, is even better than its 5-star crashworthiness!

First 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang Fetches $1 Million

Ford has auctioned off its very first 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang, VIN# 001, at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. The winning bid came in at a cool $1 million, and the proceeds will benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the country’s leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.

The proud new owner of the first production Ford Shelby GT350R will get to choose from any of the available colors and options.

The Shelby GT350R was designed to be Ford’s most powerful supercar yet, capable of delivering on-track performance never before seen from a Mustang. Improved aerodynamics, updated chassis engineering, and light-weighting are factors that contribute to the GT350R’s impressive performance.

“The Shelby GT350R is a world-class car, the best performing Mustang that we have ever built,” said Raj Nair, Ford Group Vice President, Global Product Development.  “We are thrilled to donate the first retail production Shelby GT350R to JDRF for auction.  When this car crosses the auction block it should raise a tremendous amount of money for a great charity.”

And that it did. According to motorauthority.com, this Barrett-Jackson auction sold 1,600 cars, with a total value reaching more than $130 million. That marks a new record in the auction house’s 44-year history. The auction of the first Ford Shelby GT350R certainly helped achieve that record.

Ford Names Mark LaNeve Head of U.S. Sales

With John Felice heading into early retirement after 31 years of service, Ford has named a successor to its top sales and marketing position. Felice’s replacement is none other than Mark LaNeve.

LaNeve served as General Motors head of sales and marketing for five years before taking his leave after the company’s bankruptcy in 2009. LaNeve then joined Allstate Corp. where he helped create the “Mayhem” advertising campaign. After three years, he departed and took over as Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Global Team Ford, Ford’s advertising agency.

At Ford, LaNeve will cover all marketing, sales, and service and dealer relations within the United States. “John has had a long and successful career as a key leader serving us around the world for more than 30 years,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president of the Americas, on John Felice’s early retirement. LaNeve is expected to change customer’s retail experience. With LaNeve taking the reins from Felice on February 1, 2015, we can expect Ford to overcome any challenges it may face in the future.

New Ford F-150 Earns Title of 2015 Truck of the Year

Truck Trend has chosen an excellent and worthy recipient for the magazine’s first annual Truck of the Year award. The Ford F-150, a new truck for a new generation of truck buyers, was named the 2015 Truck of the Year. There are many reasons the truck is worthy of the award—from its groundbreaking and progressive design, to its efficiency, power and style.

“Ford has found a sweet spot in the half-ton pickup segment, delivering a compelling mix of efficiency and capability, while still delivering an enhanced driving experience that American consumers demand,” said Sean P. Holman, Truck Trend content director. “What we put these trucks through was nothing short of grueling, and it was the F-150 that consistently impressed our experts.”

Ford was already crushing the competition in the full-size truck segment, but this new version of the F-150 simply pushes the bar even higher—and puts the Ford lineup farther ahead of the competition. With an EcoBoost engine, a rearview camera, BoxLink design, and more, the truck has everything. Come see us here at Shults Ford of Wexford to learn more.

Singer Neil Young Reveals Lincoln Continental Return

Over the past year, Lincoln Motor Company has been making some major changes and it looks like these changes are going to just keep on coming. Next year, the updated MKS is set to arrive in showrooms everywhere—and, according to the well-known music legend Neil Young, it looks like it will carry the famous Continental nameplate.

During an episode of Mad Money on CNBC, the singer divulged in front of a national audience that he will be partnering up with Lincoln, putting his Pono high-end digital music player into Lincoln models. As he talked about the system, he off-handedly mentioned that it would be featured in the Continental, which is set to launch in 2016.

While Lincoln has yet to confirm the Lincoln Continental return, they also haven’t denied it. The MKS will use the same platform as the Lincoln MKZ, but will be slightly longer with a front-wheel drive layout.

As we get more information about the possible return of the Continental, we will share it with you. Make sure you check back to Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford for an update soon!

2016 Lincoln MKX Design Reflects Previous Concept

Lincoln has finally released a look at the next-generation Lincoln MKX—and it turns out, we have seen it before. The brand-new crossover from Lincoln is almost an exact duplicate of the previous MKX Concept that debut at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, with a few minor changes.

Similar to the previous concept car, the 2016 Lincoln MKX design has a split-wing grille across the front fascia of the vehicle, though its headlights aren’t as integrated into the grille. The production version crossover has a bit more material added to the shape of the lower air dam. It also has some more character than the concept car, with a line that adds flair to the MKX’s silhouette. The MKX even has similar twin-spoke wheels, making it easy to see the resemblance between the two vehicles.

The newest MKX is expected to launch in 2015 and will be the first Lincoln model to come with the brand-new high-end Revel audio system. For more information on the 2016 MKX, make sure you contact Shults Ford Lincoln of Wexford today!

“Ford is delivering an easier way for customers to stay connected,” said Raj Nair, Ford chief technical officer and group vice president, Global Product Development, in a statement. “SYNC 3 is another step forward in delivering connectivity features customers most want, and they tell us this kind of technology is an important part of their decision to buy our vehicles.”

To develop this next-generation system, Ford built upon its experience with more than 10 million SYNC-equipped vehicles on the road around the world. It also used more than 22,000 customer comments and suggestions along with research clinics to design the updated system.

Lincoln Black Label Experience to Create Ultimate Luxury

Lincoln is upping its luxury game with their new “Black Label” experience, which was revealed earlier this month. This upgrade will provide an even more premium feel to the interiors of Lincoln vehicles, making trips all the more comfortable.

Black Label is being described as “upscale, customized vehicle interiors and membership perks,” and the movement will hit 32 Lincoln dealerships in six different states next month, for vehicles such as the new MKC crossover and the MKZ sedan.

The upgrade option – which can be purchased for about $5,995 – puts Venetian leather in your car as well as a list of exclusive colors. Once the upgrade is purchased, owners are also eligible to join the Black Label club, for car washes and detailing among other perks.

“It is the ultimate expression of what the Lincoln brand will stand for,” said group marketing manager for Lincoln, Andrew Frick in USA Today.
